DAAD-Chat: Accommodation matters on 14th July 2011

in DAAD, moderierte chats |

Finding a nice place to live is never easy and even more so when arriving as an international student in Germany. Fortunately there are many options available, ranging from simple dormitory rooms to fully furnished private flats. Still, especially in popular destinations like Berlin or Cologne affordable rooms are quickly taken. To prevent early frustration it certainly makes sense to plan ahead, either by looking around on the private housing market or by contacting Student Services organisations at respective universities. How can I find affordable rooms and flats? When should I start looking for accommodation and where can I ask for help? To what should I pay attention when renting a private flat? How should I proceed when looking for a shared flat?
