22.05.2013: International guests at the ceremony celebrating “150 years of the SPD” in Leipzig

Among the events celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of the SPD, on 22 and 23 May 2013 there be ceremonies where more than 300 international guests from over 80 countries will be expected in Leipzig. Amongst the guest, French President Francois Hollande and numerous deputy heads of government, foreign ministers and European Commissioners and another nine Heads of State and Government have agreed to come.

Following the first meeting in December last year in Rome at the invitation of the Italian Democratic Party, a new global network of progressive forces, the Progressive Alliance, was founded in Leipzig. Besides discussing the urgent question of how a new social advancement in the age of globalization can be achieved, there will also be a discussion on how international cooperation of progressive parties can be more concrete.

Around 30 party leaders and many senior party representatives, including the U.S. Democrats, the South African ANC and the Indian Congress Party are expected to attend the events.
