Help for Refugees
Given the dramatic refugee crisis, more than 40 foreign ministers, colleagues and representatives of international organisations have been invited to Berlin on 28th October for an international conference Germany is hosting. Foreign Minister Steinmeier said in an interview.
“Since the beginning of the Syria crisis, we have provided hundreds of millions of Euro to alleviate the plight of the people in Syria itself and in the neighbouring countries,” Steinmeier told the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung. Turkey deserves great credit for their acceptance and the care of refugees. Even more dramatic is the situation in Jordan and Lebanon.
The Federal Government has always stressed that the countries of the region, taking in refugees, must receive humanitarian support and measures based on this principle. Steinmeier also pointed in his speech to the 69th UN General Assembly. “The countries neighbouring Syria, who make enormous efforts, but also carry an immense burden from the huge influx of displaced persons especially need support”, he said.
